I've been using S&C for my current Boston for over 10 years and please with the product till recent. This Jan 3rd we had a rude awakening that our pup now has 2-3 heart murmur and were directed to a moderate sodium restriction of <90mg per 100kCal a day. Upon contacting the company for sodium content, we had to change her diet. She really loves the Dandy Lamby, though well over 100mg sodium per kcal. Basically we can only feed the Surf & Turf which is slightly below 80mg per kcal. The Duck also comes into that category, though read somewhere about Duck not being a good choice for CHF. Know continued high sodium levels can lead to heart disease and recommended for healthy adult dogs is 100mg per kcal per Tufts University, so wondering if the long term use contributed to our pup developing a heart murmur? I know there can be other contributed factors as I live with MS. The good is S&C doesn't use peas/legumes or potatoes that can be other contributed factors to dog heart murmurs. There are a few raw recipes that hug the 100mg per kcal healthy dog sodium content. Though keep in mind treats as they can be just as evil with sodium if not worse. Just do your homework and hopefully S&C will reevaluate their pet diets to not include so much sodium by eliminating unnecessary salt in the recipes. BTW, my Boston has always been at a healthy weight, so not a contributed factor for her...just too much sodium with lots of Dandy Lamby meals over the years.
